Can Google TV do what so many have failed at?

Google TVGoogle TV just stepped into the limelight. The news arrived during Google’s I/O conference in San Francisco today. This much-anticipated service marks yet another step by Google out of PCs and into the rest of people’s lives.

Its plan is simple: Deliver the online video, features, and websites that we enjoy on our desktop screens and deliver it all to our TV screens. But history shows that connecting those two ecosystems – or at least convincing shoppers that they need such a union – is a lot harder than it sounds.

AOLTV fell flat. Microsoft Windows media players couldn’t simplify the experience enough to win over many converts. Apple TV felt too tethered to your computer’s iTunes account. Tivo Premier, the Kodak Theater HD Player, and Yahoo’s living room integrationdo basically the same thing as Google TV, but never gained much traction. more…

Landis, Admitting Doping, Accuses Top U.S. CyclistsAfter four years of maintaining his innocence about doping charges that ruined his reputation and caused him to be stripped of his 2006 Tour de France title, the American cyclist Floyd Landis has sent e-mail messages to several cycling officials in the United States and in Europe in which he admits using performance-enhancing drugs for most of his career.

Two of those officials said that Landis’s messages provided a detailed description of doping that began in 2002, Landis’s first year alongside then-teammate Lance Armstrong. Both were riding for the successful but now-defunct United States Postal Service team. The two officials who received the e-mail did not want their names published, citing ongoing investigations, including by federal authorities, into the content of the e-mail.

Dancing With The Stars results May 11

Tonight’s repeat dance request was the phenomenal 1950’s style Paso Doble created by Derek and danced by him with Nicole Scherzinger.

The Gipsy Kings entertained with a song from “Toy Story 3,” which was danced to by Tony and Cheryl, who actually choreographed this number for the movie. They were joined on the floor by Dimitri and Kim.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ blogger Pat MurphyDance Center Comedy then analyzed the final 5 celebrities competing for the semi-finals. This was, at best, semi-amusing.
